Hi, my name is Dotty. I was found in Palmar Norte, Costa Rica, under a trailer with my 7 puppies. We were abandoned there, but then found by El Refugio. I am sweet and so happy that me and my puppies are safe now.
I am a good alert dog and protector. I will let you know when someone enters your property. I am also very friendly and super smart. I listen really well too. I walk good on a leash and know commands. I would do best in a home without chickens or cats. I can’t wait to meet you. xo Dotty
Here is what my foster mama says about me: “She is a protector. When I was in trouble at the Mercado near my house she escaped the yard and seriously saved me. I cannot even describe to you how thankful I was when she showed up after being harassed by a man and then attacked by his dog, only to be confronted by 7 other snarling dogs on the street. She came up the road running through them and then escorted me safely home. She loves so deeply the person who cares for her. She is content being lazy around the house, making sure everyone knows that they cannot enter your home. She loves walks. Belly rubs are her favorite. She’s an incredible dog. “

Visit our shelter
Our shelter is open to the public for Adoption Saturdays from 9-12 every Saturday. If you are unable to visit during those hours, please contact us to arrange another time!
All animals at El Refugio are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and dewormed.
